The Department of English is as old as BSMRSTU: it started functioning in 2011 with thirty four students and two teachers. From its inception, the department has endeavoured to inculcate enlightening and liberal insights, which resonate with the core values and ideologies of our Liberation War, into its learners. The department has been emphasising teaching and learning English language and literature in a trans-disciplinary approach. It has aimed to see literature from the wide optic of historiography, philology, anthropology, environmental studies, sociology and other core branches of humanities and social sciences. Thus, the department envisions to hone student's critical thinking abilities and to create their broader intellectual commitment to their ecology and existence. It also offers career-oriented learning keeping pace with the contemporary realities of job prospects of the English graduates.
